Simple Relationship Compatibility Test

As I write in many of my articles, a relationship is basically a desire and an agreement of two people to spend time together, have nice nights together and generally have a life together.

So in order to understand if a couple in a relationship indeed has a high level of compatibility, it is enough to talk about how both of partners see their common time together for the span of the relationship, let's say a month, or a year or even more.

For example, David dates Luise and if this couple is compatible they would surely think of going to the films together which they both like, plan for vacations in places both would like to go, later, probably, plan to move and live together in a city and an area which both like or think suitable.

Do you see how it works?

They talk about things they both agree and have plans to do things they both agree and dream of places and events they both agree are enjoyable and worthwhile.

So, in order to test your couple compatibility, all you have to do is to talk, I mean, really communicate about how would you see your time together in a week, a month, spending the nearest or even more far away holidays and if you are a daring couple, you might talk about a year or two ahead. You would talk about your life together, cats and dogs, house, children and so on.

I want to stop in this specific article on three interesting subjects: house, pets and children. Because I believe a real serious and successful relationship comes eventually to these three questions: where would we live, which pet if ever would we have and how many children would we want to have.

If you are not at the stage you would like to talk about children, it's OK. Talk about pets now. I don't compare children to pets, of course, but for younger people children might be way too serious a subject, while cats and dogs are certainly a funny and nice thing to discuss.

What about house? Even if you still don't live together or even don't plan to, you can describe a house you dream of. How would it look like, how many stories, how many rooms, should it have a pool, a garden, and so on. It is a great pleasure even just imagining a house of your dreams. And if you and your partner both agree on your dreams and can work out a house of your future as you both would like to have, you are certainly communicating and thinking on the same wave!

The same about pets - which pet would you like to have together. I know that when a pair wants to have a dog and both of partners admire and love dogs, that really gets them closer to each other and they have always what to talk about. The same, of course, applies to cat.

On the contrary if one just loves dogs and another hates them but would rather have a cat, it could be a subject for an argument or two, so try to solve this compatibility issue before it becomes a problem.

And the last one here are the children if you have a mature enough relationship to come to the subject. You, of course, can talk about how many children would you like to have together and when.

Discussing the subjects I brought up here, your relationship compatibility would be much more clear and can also be dramatically improved.

Surviving A Long Distance Relationship: 7 Powerful Secrets To Rekindle the Love and Keep It Alive

All relationships take work. But a long-distance relationship is even more difficult and it can sometimes seem impossible to keep love alive when separated. But love can be a powerful motivator and, if you're dedicated enough, you can make a long-distance relationship work.

If your man is overseas, you may be concerned that his need for affection may lead him astray ' but with the right attitude and a little creativity, your long-distance relationship can be rewarding, exciting and romantic. You just have to work a little harder to keep the flame burning while you're apart.

1) Write love letters.

One of the best things about long-distance relationship is receiving ' and sending ' love letters and romantic poetry. Even relationships where a couple live in the same house can benefit from expressing feelings on paper, and it's even more special when there are miles between you.

So take advantage of the distance and craft a love poem for him that's as romantic as anything out of a Jane Austen novel. Handwrite a two-page letter, send a flirty text message or type out a romantic e-mail.

You don't have to embarrass yourself with gooey sentimentality, but the more detailed your love notes, the better. As long as you're sincere, you really can't go wrong.

2) Live in the present.

Instead of emphasizing the distance between the two of you, focus on the love you share every day, and how grateful you have each other to rely upon.

It's natural to plan for the future, but if you're always talking about how terrific it will be the next time you're together, you're not enjoying the present. Don't live for "someday" ' appreciate each other right now, even with the distance, and don't pin all your happiness on some far-off moment down the road.

3) Build trust.

If you show that you trust your partner, they will return the favor. Even couples who live together fear infidelity, so it can especially tough to trust that your partner overseas is being faithful.

But if both of you agreed to be true to each other while in separate cities, states or countries, or continents, then you should trust that neither of you will risk your love too easily.

So if you let him know you're confident in your relationship ' and reinforce that you're happy to wait for your partner ' the two of you will have more of a chance of succeeding.

4) Be careful with your words and tone of voice.

Because you aren't there to read his body language and facial expressions and feel his hug ' and vice versa ' pay extra attention to way you communicate.

If something you read strikes you the wrong way, ask him to clarify. Make sure that your own writing is clear. If you're having a tough day and the stress is creeping into your voice while you're on the phone, make sure to tell him why you're tense and that it's not because of him. It's easy to miscommunicate when you're not face-to-face, so head off any misunderstandings before they start.

5) Don't idealize your partner.

Lovers tend to idealize each other in long-distance relationships, building them up to be people they aren't.

It's natural to think highly of your partner, but don't have unrealistic expectations of how perfect your life will be when you're finally together again. You'll only be setting yourself up for a massive disappointment if you do.

6) Involve him in your everyday life.

It's important for him to feel connected to you. Tell him about even the most mundane details about your day, keep him up to date about your life.

Share gossip about the neighbors, tell him about a movie you saw, talk about the new software you're installing on the computer. Some long-distance couples will set their VCRs to record a movie or TV show so they can watch it together, chatting on Instant Messenger or on the phone while watching at the same time.

Having these special "dates" will keep the two of you close, just as sharing the most boring details of your life will keep you conncted as a couple.

7) Close the distance every now and then.

Even if you feel your long-distance relationship is going along just swimmingly, there's nothing like a planned or totally spontaneous get-together to spice things up.

Save up for a plane ticket and surprise your lover with a weekend visit. Sometimes you just need a little reminder of the physical connection you two have, not just the emotional one.

Your long-distance relationship can work ' even thrive ' with a little effort and creativity. Even if your partner is starting to feel a little distant, you can rekindle the love with a few romantic gestures and a lot of compassion.

Online Dating -- Privacy and Security Risks

In order to register for an online dating service, consumers are often asked to provide exhaustive personal information. How this information will be handled varies widely between companies. Most companies keep certain information private while making other details available to other members or even to anyone with Internet access. And as the recent wave of security breaches demonstrates, hackers are capable of pulling information out of company databases thought to be secure against intruders.

Here are a few tips for online dating services:

Read the site's privacy policy, terms of service, and any membership agreement or contract very carefully. Privacy policies should be straightforward and tell you exactly how information you submit may be used, and the membership agreement or contract should also be clear. While many online dating services are inexpensive, some are not;

Do not use an e-mail address you use for other purposes and avoid using any address that contains your name or your employer's or school's name. Instead, use an e-mail address from a service that will permit you to open an account without giving out your personal information. Be sure to check with your e-mail provider for terms and conditions of use. Do not give out even this e-mail address too readily;

Do not use a telephone number that can be traced to you through directory services. Check with your cellular service provider to find out whether third parties can associate your name with your cellular phone number;

Report abusive communications to the webmaster of the dating service. If the behavior continues, and you feel unsafe in view of the personal information you have disclosed, call your local police department.

Location-based Dating Services

Location-based or "real-world" dating services sometimes involve contracts with high costs and little chance of cancellation by the consumer. Contracts can easily run $1,000 -- even $10,000 contracts are not uncommon. Again, consumers should scrutinize contracts before signing.

Look for contract terms that clearly disclose:

The exact cost and any future payments that may be required. If you sign a retail installment contract, pay close attention to the interest and terms of payment;

Whether, and under what circumstances, you may cancel the contract and receive a refund;

Whether you can transfer the contract to another location in the event you move;

Exactly what the business, at a minimum, must do for you, including whether it guarantees a minimum number of matches. Also check to see whether the contract defines what will be considered a "match."

In addition to carefully reviewing the contract, there are other steps consumers can take to protect themselves before signing a contract with a real-world dating service. Here are a several additional tips:

Beware of aggressive sales tactics -- Some location-based dating services with sales offices and experienced salespersons may use aggressive tactics to persuade you to sign up on the spot. In addition to using a "now or never" pitch to pressure you into signing, companies may also drag out the length of your visit, rotate salespersons, and manufacture extreme consequences for any delay on your part. Refuse to sign any contract you can't take home overnight to review;

Get straight answers to your questions, in writing. This is especially important with regard to fees and terms of cancellation times. If the representative won't give you a straight answer, in writing, you should not sign up for the service;

Be wary of verbal promises that are not in your contract, especially concerning the company's vast list of potential matches that meet your specific dating criteria. Inquire into the company's male to female member ratio, number of active members, whether or not they have any satisfied customers you could speak to, and what they offer in the way of a refund if the service is not successful in your case. Again, get it in writing;

Don't pay for a contract you can't afford -- if the price is too high, chances are that the business will be able to offer you a cheaper deal. Remember: if you sign up but can't pay the charges, your credit score could be damaged;

Don't sign a contract that contains terms you think are unfair. If there are contract terms you don't like, demand that they be changed or removed, in writing.

Tips On Conversation Starters

Going out on a date can be really exciting and enjoyable especially when you're having the time of your life with your date. The key factor in great dates is great conversation. Striking up a conversation with the other person can put too much pressure on you especially if you know so little about them. This is one reason why you and your date should start asking questions about one another to get to know each other on a deeper level.

When you found something in common between you, this could be the start of a great conversation. Share you experiences and your interests, let them know and let them feel that you're interested and you're interesting. Ask open ended questions. These questions are not simply answerable by yes or no but by deep conversational messages. Through this, you will have a good idea about the person's intellectual level as well as their sense of humor, if there's any. Having the same wavelength of thinking is one of the crucial factors in successful relationships. You'd want to spend the rest of your life with someone who you can talk to about serious matters at the same time make you laugh, right?

Probably one of the best conversation starters involves sharing one or more sms in your mobile phone. You could start with "Hey, you know what? A friend recently sent me this funny sms. I can't stop laughing all day when I read it," and then show her the message on your mobile phone.

You can also share some love quotes with her. You could start talking about it like, "When I read this love quote on my mobile phone, I knew I had to ask you out on a date. I was struck with it so hard that even if I was a bit shy, I mustered enough courage to ask you out. Here is why," and then show the love quote that inspired you to be brave enough to ask her out. This gesture will surely melt the girl's heart and you'll notice her blush while reading the love quote. If you're lucky enough, she would be starting to fall for you because of what you told her.

If you are still quite unsure how to start the flow of communication, you can begin by complimenting your date. Saying something nice to a guy is easier than complimenting a girl. If you comment on his appearance or his car, it will instantly break the ice and will send a message that you like him. Complimenting a girl can be complicated. Don't just use average words because it would only mean that she looks plain. The tip here is to sound exhilarated and excited when you say something nice about her. Don't over do it though, you might sound creepy enough and scare her off.

If you have a good sense of humor, take advantage of it. Laughter is a great ice breaker and you'd be surprised at how powerful it can be to help you connect with you date. Believe it or not, both of you are nervous. It is okay to let your date know that you're nervous. Since your date feels that same way, he'll start letting his guard down to be comfortable with you.

Are You Experiencing Abuse in a Dating Relationship?

Violence in relationships is not just an adult problem. Abuse occurs in more than a quarter of teen relationships. Dating violence is when physical, emotional, and/or sexual force is used by one person to control or dominate the other. If you or someone you know is a victim of dating violence it is important to talk about it with someone, preferably an adult, to get help. If the first person you tell doesn't help you, talk to someone else. Keep trying to get help.

If you are being abused by someone you are dating or have dated in the past, remember, you are not alone and it is not your fault. You may feel confused and scared about what is going on. But, you need to deal with it, because the abuse will likely get worse over time. It does not go away just because your partner says they will stop the abuse.

The following warning signs may indicate that you are in an abusive dating relationship:

You may be at risk if the person you are dating or have dated in the past:

* Is jealous and possessive toward you, won't let you have friends, checks up on you, or won't accept breaking up. * Tries to control you by giving orders and making all the decisions. Doesn't take your opinion seriously. * Is scary. (You worry about your partner's reactions to things you might say or do.) * Threatens you, uses or owns weapons. * Is violent: has a history of fighting or loses temper quickly. * Pressures you for sex, or is forceful or scary around sex. (In a male, may treat women or girls as sex objects.) * Gets too serious about the relationship too fast. * Abuses drugs or alcohol and pressures you to use them, too. * Blames you for the mistreatment you get. Says you provoked the abuse, pressed buttons, or "asked for it". * Your family and friends have warned you about the person or told you they were worried about your safety.

If you have observed any of these things happening in your or another teen's relationship, dating violence could be happening.

You can prevent it from getting worse. Help is available. Look to other messages on these pages for specific things you can do and for information on community and other agencies that can help.

If you are in an abusive relationship or trying to get out of an abusive situation, here are some tips you might think about to increase your safety:

* Stay in touch with your friends and stay involved in activities that you enjoy. * Consider telling your parents or other family members about what is happening. They can help you screen telephone calls or visitors. * Try not to be alone. Let your friends know what is happening and have them walk to classes and spend time during lunch with you. * Tell teachers, counselors, coaches, or security guards about what is happening. Have them help you be safe. * Change your routine. Don't always come to school the same way, or arrive at the same time. Always have someone with you. * Always keep extra quarters with you so you can make phone calls. * Consider obtaining an Order for Protection from the court. * Make a list of phone numbers, including 911, crisis lines, and supportive friends whom you can call when you are upset. * Try not to be alone with your dating partner. Don't go by yourself to an isolated or deserted location. * Before leaving home to go somewhere, let other people know what your plans are and where you'll be and when. * Trust your instincts. If you feel you are in danger, get help immediately. * Break up with your partner in a public place. Let other people know that you plan to break up with your partner and let them know where you'll be and when.

Everyone has rights in a relationship. Keep in mind that you have the right:

* To trust yourself and your instincts; * To be respected as a person; * To change your mind; * To express your feelings; * To refuse a date; * To not be physically, emotionally, or sexually abused; * To break up with someone who makes you feel bad.

Know your rights and don't be taken advantage of.

Interracial Dating and Love: How It Differs In Many Ways

Interracial dating in the past has been considered taboo. But as time passed by, more and more people came to understand and accept relationships of people from different races. Although there are still quite a few who are uncomfortable about the idea of interracial dating, most people in the society nowadays are open-minded.

You cannot control what your heart tells you. If you fell in love with someone from a different culture and racial background, you may find it difficult to fight for your love because of other people's reactions. However, there are a lot of interracial relationships that prove to last longer than those who have had same-race relationships. This may be because they felt a stronger bond of love between them and the trials that they went through made them love each other more, instead of breaking them apart. They grow together as one which is a really strong foundation for real love and long lasting relationship.

There are some challenges that face interracial dating because of cultural differences between interracial couples. There are some countries that still have this societal pressures and prejudices about it. In addition, some of the interracial couple's family members might oppose the union because they might think that it is unsuitable for their family's image in the society. They are worried about what other people might think about their son or daughter's relationship with another person of different background and color.

The cultural differences between the couple are one of the most difficult of all challenges because each one has to adjust to the other's cultural upbringing. While establishing their own family, the question lingers about how they would raise their children. What cultural background should they be exposed to and other things for that matter. In order to resolve this, they should have a serious exchange of ideas for raising their children. The best thing to do is mix in all the good things about each culture but leave out anything negative about it.

Interracial dating might have its difficulties and trials however there are a lot of couples who are successfully and happily married. They outgrew and withstand all the trials they have faced during their first days of dating up to the time they have established a happy home. They both have benefited of learning new things about one another's culture, both the good and the bad attributes of each culture.

Another thing that contributes to the success of every interracial dating and relationships is the advancements of technology nowadays. The mobile phone industry and the internet revolution lets people interact accordingly even if they are on the opposite sides of the planet. They feel closer than the actual thousands of miles distance between them. According to studies, there are more love quotes and love sms sent nowadays and much more egreetings sent over the internet. This surely is the essence of the new technologies constantly renovated each day and the interracial couples are greatly benefiting from them.

Interracial couples are brave enough to face the world and let the society know that nothing can stand between them and their love for each other. The more challenges and trials the interracial couples are undergoing, the stronger their relationship becomes. This only proves that love can indeed conquer all, from the moment it starts and hopefully until eternity.

Long Distance Relationships and Separated Tours

Married but living apart due to employment opportunities, the educational needs of your children, or the demands of a sick or elderly family member back home? Are you involved in a relationship, but unable to live in the same city, not to mention country? The term "geographic single" is often used to describe persons who live apart from those they love. This paper is intended to provide some suggestions for members of the Foreign Service facing a geographic separation from their mate.

Plan for the Separation

* Be honest with each other about your concerns and fears. Being committed to the relationship and to one another during the separation is important. * Talk about the upcoming separation and how you will cope. Share your expectations about being apart from each other so there are no misunderstandings. Also share your expectations when you are planning to visit each other or take a vacation together. * Set up a communication system. How will you keep in touch on a daily / weekly basis? Marriage counselors tout that communication is key to a healthy relationship. The new millennium offers more ways to communicate, in addition to fast air travel across continents. International phone calls, video teleconferencing through one's computer, web sites, international mail services, and electronic transmissions of words, cards, music, photos, and video connect loved ones together in a cyberspace second. * Many people in the Military or Foreign Service find themselves separated from spouses and family for extended periods of time due to separated tours or temporary duty travel. This presentation identifies behaviors that strengthen often-apart or long-distance relationships. * Practical considerations: - Establish separate bank accounts (can still be joint) to keep records clear. - Set up a power of attorney for any expected (and unexpected) financial transactions. - Review wills of both parties and make any necessary updates. - Establish areas of responsibility (who will pay what, contract for what, etc.), keeping in mind that the spouse in the United States will probably have more responsibilities. Depending on circumstances, the family might consider some of the following: - Share your skills with your spouse by teaching them what you know! Both should know how to put film in camera, fix loose wires, change fuses, sew on buttons, maintain financial records, and prepare food. - Divide kitchen utensils, cookbooks, rugs, furniture, books, and anything that will be needed in both locations. Make copies of favorite recipes. - Prepare family pictures, special books, music cassettes of favorite selections that will have psychological importance. - Heighten awareness about income tax requirements, i.e., collection of certain receipts, invoices, and other financial considerations. * Discuss how to make decisions about children. * Say good-bye. Plan appropriate parties and events. Remember that one spouse will be leaving even if the other is staying. Be sure to include the children in these important good-byes.

During the Separation

Remember that this experience is time-limited. Put on paper the reasons for accepting this separated assignment and refer to it periodically, as a reminder.

* Although you are apart from one another, make time for each other. Make time to communicate using those means you have set up for doing so. If you do not have an opportunity to have a telephone conversation or write an email, spend time thinking about your spouse. Some suggest keeping a journal that you can share when you are together. * Plan to see and call each other as often as finances allow. Plan something fun to do when you get the opportunity to spend time together. * Work on creative ways to communicate! As mentioned above, international phone calls, video teleconferencing through one's computer, web sites, international mail services, and electronic transmissions of words, cards, music, photos, and video connect loved ones together in a cyberspace second. Instant messaging is a great way to have a conversation online. Since you can not read one another's non-verbal communication, use symbols or words or happy faces (whatever you like) to illustrate your thoughts. Play backgammon online together! * Surprise your mate once in awhile with an unexpected phone call. * Send care packages with personal notes. * Cultivate a mentality of "the less hassle the better" for each spouse. Find help for lawn care, bill paying, house cleaning, shopping, if necessary. Find a reliable plumber, electrician, carpenter, and auto mechanic to call in emergencies. * Take pictures of post, quarters, surrounding area, Embassy office, friends, so that spouse in the U.S. can visualize what it's like at post. * Each partner may find it helpful to keep a journal, especially at the onset of separation. * Talk about ground rules for what sort of information and emotions, especially emotions, can be shared and in what manner.

The End of a Separated Tour: Return to Normalcy

* Allow time for the returning spouse to get reacquainted and adjust to being back home. Also allow time to re-adjust to shared decision making and responsibilities. * Talk about the experience.
